What to Expect on Installation Day

If you've never had an epoxy floor installed, it's natural to wonder what the day actually looks like. Here's a straightforward walk-through of a typical installation day with Lo and Behold Floor Epoxy Coating, so there are no surprises.

It starts with prep, and prep is the part we never rush. The crew clears the space, then grinds the bare concrete to open it up so the coating bonds properly. Any cracks or rough spots get attention at this stage too, because a coating is only as good as the surface underneath it. This is dusty, noisy work, and it's also the step that separates a floor that lasts from one that peels.

Next comes the coating itself. The epoxy goes down in layers: a base coat first, then the finish you chose — a flake blend, a metallic swirl, or a solid colour. Each layer needs time to set before the next one goes on, so there's some waiting built into the day. Your installer will let you know how the timing is going as the layers cure.

By the end of the day, the floor will look finished, but it won't be ready for everything just yet. Light foot traffic is usually fine sooner, while heavier use — like parking a car on it — needs more curing time. Your installer will give you a clear timeline before they leave, so you'll know exactly when you can walk on it, move things back, and park on it.

A few practical things to know ahead of time: the garage or room needs to be empty before the crew arrives, the space needs ventilation during the work, and the crew will need access to power. If anything about your space is unusual — an uneven slab, an old coating, a drain in the floor — mention it when you book your free estimate so the crew shows up prepared.

That's really it. One day of prep and coating, a short cure, and a floor that stands up to Calgary winters, road salt, and daily life for years to come.
