Do I Need to Move Everything Out of My Garage?
If you're thinking about a new epoxy floor, this is usually one of the first questions that comes up — and the short answer is yes, the garage floor needs to be clear before we start.
That's because a good epoxy job is about prep as much as coating. The concrete needs to be cleaned and ground so the coating bonds properly, and the coating has to reach edge to edge, right up to the walls. That just isn't possible with boxes, bikes, and storage bins still sitting on the floor. Clearing the space also keeps your things away from dust during prep.
In Calgary, the driveway usually becomes temporary storage for a few days. If you can, check the forecast and have tarps ready for snow or rain, and keep a clear path so you can still get in and out of the house. It's also a good chance to sort as you go — many homeowners tell us the clear-out is the push they needed to donate or toss things they'd been keeping 'just in case.'
What about the big, heavy things — a workbench, shelving, or a freezer? Don't wrestle with those on your own. When we come out for a free estimate, we'll look at what's in the garage and talk through a plan for each item, including what can be shifted within the space and what needs to come out completely. Every garage is a bit different, so it's worth asking rather than guessing.
Your garage will need to stay clear through prep, coating, and curing. Before installation day, we'll let you know how long to plan for, so you can arrange storage and parking ahead of time. A little planning up front makes installation day smooth — and means you come home to a finished floor, not a moving-day scramble.
